  Goodbye Georgia Veterans State Park Weve been here at Georgia Veterans state Park for 6 months.  About 2 months longer than we planned, because of hurricane Ian chasing us out of Florida in October.  We are ready to go. January and February were warm and lovely.  March came in like a lion.  It must be their stormy season.  The park is green with new spring growth, and the birds singing in the morning make it sound like a tropical jungle. We witnessed a controlled burn here in the park.  It would have been nice to be warned that it was coming.  Instead of waking up to what appeared to be a forest fire at first.  Luckily we had a 3 day vacation to Amelia island, Florida.  So we were leaving anyway.  We think management should have told the campers this was going to happen because the air quality was awful.  And when we came back 3 days later the fires were still burning. Greetings from Georgia Veterans State Park The New Year came in with a BANG! here in Georgia as the Georgia Bulldogs were playing for the National College Football Championship.  The game didn't start here at ET till around 8:30pm, New Years Eve, my bedtime.   I watched the first quarter, then fell asleep.   I had alarms set on my phone to wake up every 3 hours to let our 3 month old puppy out. At 11:55 pm I awoke and thought, I want to get Teddy out to potty before all the New Years eve fireworks go off, and he freaks out.  So out we went, came back in and turned the game on and watched the Georgia Bulldogs win the Championship at the stroke of midnight!     The campground and Lake Blackshear residents erupted in cheering and fireworks!!  GO DAWGS!!!                           On January 12, we had quite a storm run thru our campground.  It did a lot of tornado damage in Alabama...

Blog  #13 🎄Merry Christmas🎄   As you can see by the photo we have added a new family member.  Meet Theodore, aka, Teddy.  He is a 10 week old, 5 lb., Shipoo.  Thats 1/4 Shih Tzu, 3/4 Poodle. (Full-grown he should be 10-14 lbs) He is absolutely adorable, which is a good thing because he is a lot of work.  He's just a baby, so we take turns getting up every 2 hours to let him out of his crate to go potty. (tiny dog, tiny bladder) We have to watch him like a hawk, always.  He doesnt understand the rules of the house yet. The last part of December has been slow at the campground, which is nice because it gives us a break, and time with (training) Teddy.  We had been told that the Campground was going to be 80% occupied for the Christmas weekend.  But then the Polar express came barreling down from Canada to Georgia.  We had cancellation after cancellation.  There are 2 campers in our loop 1 this Christmas weekend.  It w...

Blog #12                                           Happy Day after Thanksgiving 🦃🍂 We have been here at Georgia Veterans State Park for almost 6 weeks now.   It tooks us awhile to get into a groove.  This park is run by a concessionaire, Coral Hospitality.  Its a big operation, with a hotel and conference center, golf course, archery range, restaurants, and more.   I don't know about the Hotel but the campground is mainly run by the hosts.  Basically we are on our own.  Another host took us by the hand and got us our golf cart and keys, showed us around.  Told us where to get supplies.  They had been running the 82 spot campground on their own cleaning 2 of the bath houses.  The other bath house was cleaned by a paid park employee.  Badly, I might add.  Thats the one we inherited, it looked like a haunted house i...

  #11 Blog             Greetings from Georgia Veterans Memorial Park As we suspected, we could not  return to Koreshan state park in Estero, Florida.  Most of the barrier island parks south of Fort Myers were either gone or uninhabitable.😢 Koreshan was damaged, but not to the point that it couldn't be used as a placement for strike teams and Rangers who had lost their homes and parks. There was no room for volunteers, at least not for a month or two. So..... The maintenance Ranger (Dan) was very upset that he was not involved in this decision, because Brian was fixing vehicles, tractors, hydraulics  and antique engines. They had a antique machine shop that Brian was going to machine parts to show the public how the machines worked. Brian is very disappointed he is not going back. Maybe next year.  9/28/2022     #10 Hello from John Prince county Park, Lake Worth, Fl.  We are just south of West Palm Beach, where The Donald lives. We are mostly out of harms way.  No storm surge from hurricane here.  We are under Tropical Storm warning.  We did have a tornado south of us yesterday afternoon.  This morning we were woken up at 5:00 am by very fierce, lightening and thunder. Then we received a tornado warning over our phones about 5:45am, while we were up and drinking coffee.  We put on our coats and walked probably 100ft. to the concrete bath houses which serve as shelters here at the campground, and stayed till the tornado warning was over, about 30 min. The 6:00 am hangout at the bath house.  Tornado warning!                                   We had our fellow evacuees, Sherry and John (from North Dakota)  over for brunch today.  ...
