 WE ARRIVED!

We are hard at work here at HHRV.  Brian works close to 40 hours a week, myself, around 34.  If they need extra help we volunteer.  This is a paid work camp host job, plus free Full Hook Up.   But we usually work 4 days on, Monday thru Thursday with 3 days off, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

 Its been challenging.  Physically for Brian (out in the heat and humidity)  and mentally for me (learning a new complicated reservation software)  But we have almost 2 months under our belt now and things are getting easier.  Its good physcial and mental exercise for both of us.

On the weekends we rest and explore, we've been to the beach twice.  The Hilton Head island beaches are lovely but crowded on the weekends.

      On a Saturday, we went to Savannah, GA to their farmers market, at Forsyth Park.  About a 40 min. drive away.  Not as nice as the PDX farmers markets, but it felt like we had been dropped into Portland, culturally.   Lots of colorful people and dogs.

We walked around, had breakfast at a YELP 5 star rated breakfast joint. (thats the last time I trust a YELP review)🤮    

We did enjoy walking around looking at the Victorian architecture of that part of the city.



We came upon this beautiful Victorian B&B, and while admiring the garden, stopped to talk to a gentleman grooming the front garden.  It turned out to be the owner,  Gerald Chamber.  He invited us to see the back and side garden and we had the most delightful visit. 
 Gerald was a Medic in the Army and had served in Iraq.  Brian and Gerald  talked Army, and where they had served.  
And I talked gardening with Gerald. 
  When he retired from the service he and his German husband moved back to the states and bought this home and remodeled it into a B&B.  





Those fellows bought this home 10 years ago for around $450,000.  Now Zillow says its worth $4 million!

    Hello, next-door neighbours at the Hilton Head RV park! We finally reached your destination yesterday in the late afternoon. (to our home in Okeechobee, Florida) A few accidents resulted in a 30- to 40-minute slowdown on I-95. But everything is good! Here is the link to our home that is up for sale in Okeechobee, Florida. Planing to buy a condo on the west coast of florida, surly on Marco Island. Mean while our home in Okee, is up for rent for the next winter season.

 # 23 Where did the summer go?  It was just here, then poof, it was gone.  We had a hot humid summer here on the Cape.  Lots of bugs too.  Mind you, not like Tennessee. We shared our late shift with Deb and Brian Castell who introduced us  to our Atlantic Oaks family of workers.  I don't know if I ever told you how we happened to find Atlanic Oaks Campground.  We met Brian and Deb on a Mediterranean cruise about 15 years ago, and I kept up with Deb over the years on Facebook.  They had worked at Atlantic Oaks during the summer occasionally, and two summers ago they wanted to tour Canada, so she asked us,  "Do You want to apply for a work camping job at Atlantic Oaks"?  And the rest is history.   #25 And another Winter has gone by. It was cold down here in Florida this winter, low 40's in the morning. We are not complaining though.  But many a morning we put on our puffy coats to walk Teddy, who has his own furry coat.  We even had frost on our window shield one morning.  Brrrrrr.  But by afternoon it would be in the 70's, and we would be peeling off the layers. Lakeland, Florida is where all our doctors are.  Between Watson clinic and the VA, we are very well taken care of.  Its how we spent a lot of our leisure time. 😂 One of the younger ladies down here was commenting on her self-care, of going in regularly to have her manicures, pedicures, and facials.  I, Ruth, commented that our self care involved Colonoscopies, Mammograms, Eye exams, Bone density testing, Prostate surgeries and Lab work.  And by the way, Brians prostate surgery went very well.  He had an excellent surgeon, spent a couple of days in the Ba...

ROAD TRIP! 1600 Miles in 30 days                    We had a rough start heading down to Lakeland, Florida.  Between Brian's prostate issues, and Hurricane Milton, we had to be very flexible.  Plans were changed numerous times.  But we made it, stayed healthy and had a restful, fun time. Here's a photo travelog, of our journey south. First stop, boondocking at Mohegan Sun Casino  Next stop, Country Acres campground, Lancaster county, Amish country, which was lovely, charming and quaint. Getting around Fantastic, Bird in Hand Farmers market!  YUM! We met up with Sun n Fun friends, Barbara Ann, and Jeff, Emily, and Brian, for coffee in Intercourse, PA.  They all live close to where we were staying.  That weekend Emily and Brian McClure were having a Highland Games at their home and acreage and invited us to come stay with them and enjoy the fun and games.
